Mains of Loirston Charitable Trust
The Mains of Loirston Charitable Trust was set up by the late Alexander Williams Allan for “the advancement of education in the fields of either the practice of agriculture or the science of agriculture in Scotland”.
Applications from all interested parties will be considered though if there are two applications of equal merit, preference will be given to an application which benefits farming in the North East of Scotland.
In 2016, the Trustees resolved to set up an Innovation Fund, to encourage innovative on-farm practical research of benefit to Scottish agriculture. The project can be based on livestock, crops, buildings, machinery or farm diversification. It is hoped that applications will come from farmers and farming advisors, rather than from the academic community. Each year, the sum of £10,000 is earmarked for awards to applicants to this Fund. The awards are intended as financial support for the costs associated with the implementation of new ideas.
